The first arabian horses arrived in New Zealand in the mid to late 1800s, with many imports heading to large sheep stations in the South Island.

But there are now no descendents of these early arabians remaining in registered arabian breeding.

In the early 20th century, two mares came from the Australia –  Gypsy Maid (Sirdar x Salome)  and Semna (Kataf xCaswa). Both mares had a great influence and appear in the pedigrees of many horses today.

Soon the Pure Crabbet horses began to arrive, including the Oran son Silver Sparkle from Lady Wentworth’s Crabbet Park, and two Silver Moonlight fillies Silver Dawn and Silver Moonbeam.
